On April 9, GOT7 member BamBam received an exemption from having to fulfill military duties in Thailand.
On April 8, GOT7 member BamBam flew over to Thailand to participate in the lottery to see whether he would be joining in the military or not. In regard to this, JYP Entertainment said, “we will know the final results after 5P.M.”
In this lottery, potential recruits draw a card out of a box. If the card is red, the recruit will serve in the military for two years, and if the card is black, then he is exempt. Even if enlisted, high school graduate serves only for a year, and college graduates, 6 months.
Turning 21 this year, BamBam participated in the process as a potential recruit. Fans supported BamBam by starting a twitter hashtag #BamBamblackcard. However, before he could draw his chances, the required number of recruits was achieved, thus exempting BamBam from military.
Previously to BamBam, NCT member Ten and 2PM member Nichkhun also received exemption from serving in Thailand’s military.
