Singer Seungri reveals his military plans and talks about how he got into the business world.
With the release of his first solo album “The Great Seungri” on July 20, the singer revealed he is already thinking about his next move. During a press conference at the CGV Cheongdam Cinecity M-CUBE in Gangnam, the BIGBANG member said that “I haven’t decided on the timing yet, but I am planning to join the military be early next year.”
All of the other members of BIGBANG including T.O.P, G-Dragon, Taeyang, and Daesung have already enlisted. Given that, Seungri explains that he does not want the gap for when the member completes their service to be too long so that they can reunite as a five-member group sooner rather than later.
However, as the sole representative of the group for the past few months, the singer has found a way to reestablish himself as an individual and an artist.
As part of the boy group, Seungri found himself lost among the commanding presence and recognition of the other members. T.O.P has the look, Taeyang the dance moves, and G-Dragon dominated music and fashion.
Now, with his sincere appearance on many different entertainment programs and his new album the singer’s popularity rank has risen. “Event through GD (G-Dragon) was ranked high, mine has risen a lot due to him being in the military,” Seungri explained. Continuing he said that Yang Hyun-suk (YG) told him that the number of people looking him up on the internet “exceeded BIGBANG for the first time since its debut.”
It is a push that has helped to distinguish the singer within the group, but his charismatic and sincere participation is not the only factor that sets him apart. Besides being a musician and entertainer, Seungri in known for his prowess as a businessman. In an interview, the singer reveals that he entered the business world when he discovered it was something he “was good at without overlapping” with the other members.
However, it was not easy. When he first started out with little to no experience, he was fooled and cheated by other. Nonetheless, he overcame each obstacle “one by one with good people at hand and friendliness” and modeled his leader and ownership style after the founder of YG Entertainment.
