Actor Jang Keun-suk will start his mandatory military service as a social service agent from July 16.

On July 6, Jang Keun-suk’s agency TreeJ Company announced, “Jang Keun-suk will start the education to serve as a social service agent from July 16 and will serve for two years.”

Previously, a media outlet reported that the actor is going to join the training camp on July 19. Shortly after, the agency announced their plan to release an official statement about the actor’s plan for the military service.

According to the official release, Jang Keun-suk is to start the service on July 16.

“The actor will alternatively serve as a social service agent based on the diagnosis of bipolar disorder,” says the statement.

Even though the actor might have been reluctant to share his private information, he made a decision to share it publicly. “Jang Keun-sun has grown thanks to fans’ continuous interest and love,” said the agency. “And he thought it was his responsibility to disclose the information to the public.”

“Although he has done his best to overcome his bipolar disorder,” the statement continued, “we feel sorry for failing to give satisfactory results.”

“From July 16 and on for 2 years, Jang Keun-suk will serve as a social service agent. He will commit to any duty with a full responsibility and will be back with a healthier and more mature version of him.”
