Kim Dong Wan, member of the longest active idol group Shinhwa, has been garnering much attention for celebrating South Korea’s holiday-March 1st.
March 1st is a special holiday in South Korea known as the March 1st independence movement to remember the past during Japanese colonization in the early 1900s.
Among the many celebrities celebrating this year’s 100th anniversary like actress Song Hye Kyo’s donation or posting about the anniversary, actor and idol Kim Dong Wan has been garnering attention for his “deep” post about Korea’s independence.
Shinhwa Kim Dong Wan starred in the drama specially prepared for this anniversary. To express his thoughts, he posted about a picture from his drama script that says the following:
“Truthfully, I can’t imagine Korea without Japan. Korea was already under Japan’s rule before I was born. I can’t imagine a different Korea. What we’re doing may be comparable to changing the sun with the moon.”
With this, the photo was captioned with “Korea’s independence was once considered a fantasy. Many fellow Koreans [figuratively] threw rocks at those who dreamed of this fantasy. If it wasn’t for those few dreamer’s sacrifice, we wouldn’t have the things we take for granted today. Thank you, sorry.”
Food for thought, can you imagine 2019 without your favorite idol? Without Kpop as it is today?
Anyone still feeling withdrawals after the end of JTBC’s Sky Castle? Luckily the drama’s real life couple, Kim Bora & Jo Byung-gyu are publicly dating.

Actor Lee Jong-suk will start his military (alternative) service on March 8th.
On February 25th, a source told Ilgan Sports, “Lee Jong-suk will start his military duty on March 8th, and unfortunately his fans will miss him for 2 years”.
When Lee Jong-suk was 16 years old, he had a big traffic accident, which led to an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury. The injury was so big that he had to give up his dream to become a taekwondo player. Therefore, Lee Jong-suk received a level 4 from the physical examination. According to the Military Manpower Administration’s rules, a person with a level 4 physical grade must receive an “alternative” military service, which means Lee Jong-suk will serve his 2 year-long military duty as a public service worker at an appointed location.
Lee Jong-suk will leave after he finishes filming the drama ‘Romance Is a Bonus Book’. Lee will wrap up filming his parts on the 27th this month. Other cast members will also finish filming in the beginning of March.
However, he won’t take a rest for the 10 days that he has left after filming the tvN drama. He will continue finishing his schedules including shooting for commercials. Because there is an increasing number of public social workers recently, Lee Jong-suk will first begin working at a designated location, and then he will receive the basic training. The specific dates have not been decided.
If Lee Jong-suk joins the army on March 8th as planned, his discharge date will be January 2nd, 2021.

Anyone still having withdrawals after Korean drama Sky Castle ended? Have you ever wondered if admissions coordinators like Sky Castle’s Kim Joo Young really exist to help students get accepted into Seoul National University’s medical school?
On February 17, JTBC’s Cool Kids aired an episode inviting current Seoul National University(SNU) medical students to ask whether things depicted in JTBC’s Korean drama Sky Castle are true.
Shockingly the answer is yes! Apparently admissions coordinators who help high school students get into Seoul National University really do exist in real life in affluent neighborhoods. While the students who appeared on the show denied they were personally aided by an admissions coordinator, the students mentioned they had heard such professionals had helped their peers get accepted into SNU. Could this mean ‘Sky Castle’ characters like Ye-seo and Hye-na exist in real life too?
