Kang Han-Na says she would like to erase the memory of the rather controversial dress she wore to the 2013 Busan International Film Festival.
On November 29 broadcast of KBS “Happy Together 4,” Kang Han-Na appeared as a guest with MAMAMOO’s Hwasa, Boom, Seol In-Ah, and Shin Ye-Eun. During the episode, Kang Han-Na mentioned her controversial dress from 5 years ago and talked about how she wishes to erase that memory.
At the 2013 Busan International Film Festival, the actress got the attention for wearing a dress with an open back that extended fairly low, revealing a part of her bottom.
At the time, she was just a rookie actress, so when Kang mentioned the dress during “Happy Together,” many seemed surprised to realize that was her. Yoo Jae-Suk said, “I remember seeing that picture. However, I did not realize it was you. Is that really you?”
Kang Han-Na said, “this dress was made by designer Mag & Logan, whom many actresses have shown their desire to wear. When they suggested that I wear this particular dress, I agreed because it looked really cool. At the scene, I posed according to the image of my dress. But now that I look at it, I feel as if I were being too much. Also, the mesh in the back was folded, for which people mistakenly thought it was a tattoo on my butt.”
At the time, a heavy criticism had landed on the actress and many accused her of using “nudity” as a marketing purpose. In response, Kang Han-Na said, “I understand that some of you may have felt offended by the picture and the image. However, I hope to make up for it in the future by proving that I had many sides to me other than that.”
At the end, special MC Hwasa complimented, “it was a bold choice, but a cool choice for a dress.” In response, Kang Han-Na said, “yes, that is who I am.”
K.Will returns with his fourth studio album and thanks Yoo Yeon-Seok and Mamamoo’s Hwasa for their support!
On November 5, K.Will hosted an interview celebrating the release of part two of his 4th full-length album, “Mood Indigo.” During the interview, the balladeer showed his gratitude towards Mamamoo’s Hwasa and actor Yoo Yeon-Seok for showing support for his return.
K.Will begun, “after releasing a single last spring, I was able to come to a completion with part two of my 4th studio album this time. I made this while preparing for autumn. It’s been about a year since I released a full-length album, and I’m hoping that this new album will receive lots of love from many of my audience.”
He continued, “I tried to show who I am as naturally as possible. I tried not to exaggerate. Nowadays, not a lot of people actually buy and listen to a physical album. However, I still put much effort while thinking of those who have been so patiently waiting for my return.”
The singer also talked about the title track “These Days,” for which he co-produced with well-known lyricist Kim Eana and producer Kim Do-Hoon. K.Will said, “if there are people out there who are expecting to hear a ‘K.Will-y ballad,’ I think that’s the perfect term to describe this track.”
The track’s music video especially got attention from the public for featuring actor Yoo Yeon-Seok. In the music video, the actor played in the role of a tailor, who is taken aback at a female client’s beauty. K.Will explained the process of asking Yoo to appear in the music video. The singer said, “I don’t have a personal connection with Yoo Yeon-Seok. I’ve talked to him on the phone once, but that’s it. While working on this music video, we became quite close. He so easily accepted my request to appear in my music video.”
However, the truth was that Yoo Yeon-Seok not-knowingly stole K.Will’s chance to appear in his own music video. The singer jokingly continued, “initially, I was going to be the star of the video. However, after Yoo Yeon-Seok confirmed his appearance, there was no need for me to. My company strongly suggested that I stayed out of it. It’s not like I asked him, first.”
Lastly, K.Will also thanked Mamamoo’s Hwasa for featuring in one of his tracks, “Don’t be Too Nice.” He said, “it’s been a while since I sang a duet with a female artist. All members of Mamamoo have great talent, so I’ve always wanted to collaborate with them. I’m thankful that Hwasa accepted my proposal to work together. In midst of busy schedule, she participated with much delight. She also showed her support for my new album, I’m just very thankful.”
Meanwhile, K.Will’s 4th studio album pt.2 “Mood Indigo” will drop on November 6 at 6PM, KST.
MAMAMOO members appeared on stages in lingerie and fans are arguing over how such stage outfits are promoting the objectification of women.
On August 19, MAMAMOO members once again ruled the stage during their concert, 4 SEASON S/S. In addition to a series of title numbers, the group treated fans with various solo performances as well, to which fans reacted with much enthusiasm.
However, not all fans enjoyed their performances Hwasa and Solar individually presented. Although there is no argument with the fact that their solo stages were awesome, some fans couldn’t help but point out what the artists were wearing to perform their numbers.
To sing her solo number, “Despacito,” Solar appeared on the stage in a black Bralette and a short. As dimmed red lights were flashing, Solar performed a pole dance, which inarguably showed that the amount of effort the artist put on the stage.
Regardless of how perfect Solar’s moves were on the pole, her stage caused controversy among fans, resulting in divisive arguments. A number of fans criticized her stage clearly promoted the objectification of women.
Member Hwasa, too, performed her duet stage with Loco in a red corset lingerie outfit. Throughout the performance, Hwasa kept pulling down her shorts, which barely covered her hips.
“A lingerie look, garter belts, pole dance, and red light? There is no way fans don’t get any message from a woman pole dancing in her underwear,” said a Twitter user.
“Young girls literally idolizes K-pop stars,” added another Twitter user. “And artists deserve criticisms for neglecting their impact on them.”
Especially because the group has been the icon of the empowerment of women since its debut, many fans felt somewhat left betrayed. Comparing the artists’ past stage outfits, many of which were gender neutral, to the lingerie looks, fans pointed out how MAMAMOO has grown to promote sexualization.
On the other hand, a significant number of fans are arguing against such criticism at the same time.
“A grown woman have rights to choose what they want to wear,” said a Twitter user, arguing that fans should not dictate what to wear and what not to. “She is promoting body confidence, not sexualization.”
A week has passed since the concert, but the controversy is still growing.
