The drama “Mr. Sunshine” moves up in rank, making it the current most popular series of the summer.
On July 23, Good Data Corporation, a TV broadcast survey company, published a list of the top 10 dramas for the third week of July. Unsurprisingly, given the media coverage and on and offline conversation tVN’s epic drama “Mr. Sunshine” took the top spot.
Starring Lee Bhyun-hun and Lee Tae-ri in the principal roles, “Mr. Sunshine” is a historical drama that has taken some creative liberties to tell the story of a boy who ends us in the U.S. after the 1871 Shinmiyangyo incident. Once a man, he returns to his native Korea at a critical turning point. The show, written by Kim Eun-sook and purposefully directed by Lee Eung-bok, has captivated viewers from the first episode.
Notably, this is the first time that the drama has overtaken “What’s Wrong With Secretary Kim,” another tVN show. With heartthrob Park Seo-joon as the main character, the drama has been number one for the past seven weeks in a row. Additionally, it is predicted that “Mr. Sunshine” will continue to grow in popularity.
When it first aired, the episode recorded an 8.9 percent viewership rating; the latest an 11.7 percent rate. As such, the amount of people watching the show is steadily increasing.
Meanwhile, behind “Mr. Sunshine,” and “Why Secretary Kim,” is “Let’s Eat 3,” and OCN’s “Life on Mars” in fourth place.
