Out of the “Big 3” K-Pop agencies (SM Entertainment, YG Entertainment, JYP Entertainment), SM Entertainment (herein referred to as SM) has produced the most nominated artists the 33rd Golden Disc Awards.

In 2017, SM’s artists had nine nominations with six of them (Girls’ Generation, Super Junior, Taeyeon, EXO, Red Velvet) winning the Grand Prize. This year, the agency has racked up 10 nominations in total. Eight of those nominations (TVXQ, Red Velvet, Jonghyun, Taeyeon, EXO, EXO CBX, NCT, NCT127) will likely take home the Grand Prize. Meanwhile, Red Velvet and EXO will compete against their peers in the digital music category. Usually, SM’s physical CD sales outpace their digital ones. With this last nomination, it highlights how strong the agency’s artists have been this year.

JYP Entertainment came in second behind SM with eight nominations, including DAY6, GOT7, Stray Kids, and TWICE. In addition to the Grand Prize, girl group TWICE is up for the Best Album of the year with What Is Love and in the digital category for “Heart Shaker” from their album Merry & Happy. Moreover, Stray Kids are a contender for the Rookie and Best Record awards.

YG Entertainment has five nominations. This year, WINNER is competing in the Best Record category while BLACKPINK, BIGBANG, and iKON are up for the Grand Prize. Additionally, BLACKPINK in also a contender for the digital music category.
