According to different media reports, for the upcoming season of Mnet’s hip-hop program “Show Me The Money” (SMTM), the entertainment company has decided to increase the cash prize amount.

On June 27, “SMTM Triple 7” (season 7), which is currently in a preparatory stage, will award the winner 200 million won (178,885 USD). Speaking about the change, a representative told reported that they are “heavily armed with an upgraded format” with improves upon the previous season. Further, the representative explained that the show’s producers “will prepare the best stage(s) to meet the expectations of our viewers.”

Drawing from the title of the next season, the “triple 7” implies a more complicated, and perhaps multi-seasonal, formate. As such, Mnet’s decision can be interpreted as an “all-out effort” to recruit contestants. However, even without the new prize amount, Mnet does not have to worry about popularity and scope.

“SMTM” has already been around for six seasons. In that time, it has developed into a gateway for talented rappers to make a name for themselves. Further, the program has become a cornerstone show for Mnet, gaining overwhelming rating that increases with every rendition. In particular, the show is very popular with teenagers and those in their 20s.

Taking all of that into consideration, it is no surprise that the number of applicants for season seven is already on the rise. Moreover, rumors have emerged that even renowned star rapper such as Nafla, Loopy, and Black Nine have already completed their applications.

Meanwhile, the show is still in preproduction and show’s producers are currently recruiting artists to compete.
