The 2017 dramatic fantasy “Single Rider” is, as one reviewer put it, “a perplexing, afflictive, and at times distressing story about regret and consequence.”

Kang Jae-hoon (Lee Byung-hun), a beleaguered and failed security broker, leaves Seoul to find his wife and son who live in Australia. While there he deals with regret, desperation, and suspicion that create a distinct sense of hopelessness. It appears that the events in his life have left the character deeply depressed, if not more (no spoilers).

The depression that plagues the Kang Jae-hoon is an illness that actor Lee Byung-hun says he lives with in real life. In addition to depression, he also has panic disorder, a condition that includes unwarranted panic attacks.

Lee opened up about an incident last year when he had a panic attack while filming for a show. During a program on Channel A, Lee appeared for an interview and seemed fine at first. However, just moments later he is seen ducking under the table and covering his ears. Regarding the incident, Lee explained that he just felt like he “couldn’t stand it anymore” at the time. As such, when the panic attack took place, he felt a need to hid and went under the table.

This is not the first time that Lee has opened up about mental illness. In a past interview with the fashion magazine Esquire, the actor talked about his panic disorder and how he deals with the condition. More, in on the talk shop “Healing Camp,” Lee opens up about the emotional distress he endured when his father passed away which left his family with incredible debt.
