Actors Ji Chang-wook, Kang Ha-neul, and K-pop boy group INFINITE’s member Sung-Kyu are to meet their fans on the stage of upcoming military production musical, “Shinheung Military Academy.”

On August 14, Ji Chang-wook, Kang Ha-neul, and Sung-kyu, who are currently serving in the military, had a press conference with other co-stars and military officials to announce the production of the military musical, “Shinheung Military Academy.”

“Shinheung Military Academy,” which is set in the early 20th century, follows the lives of young people who fought against Japanese imperialism. Produced to celebrate the 70th Armed Forces Day, the military musical allowed the stars to be on the stage while serving in the military.

The musical will be led mostly by actors and singers currently serving in the army. During the press conference, a total of 39 cast members gave a sneak peek the production. Both Ji Chang-wook and Kang Ha-neul sang solo numbers, while Sung-kyu sang a duet number with a co-star, Kim Ji-woong.

“We wish the musical can touch people’s hearts,” said a military official. “Through the musical, we wish people to commemorate those who dedicated everything to fight for the country when it was taken.”

Ji Chang-wook also shared how he feels about taking a part in the musical. “Thankfully, I was able to participate in the piece as military personnel,” he said. “It is a very meaningful piece to me and I’m working on it with much pleasure.”

“Whenever I act in a piece, I approach to it with a mindset to truly enjoy it,” said Kang Ha-neul. “When I first met this musical, I realized that I could do so, with so many people. Serving in the military, I met a number of people who joined the military while preparing to debut as actors. This piece allowed them opportunities.”

INFINITE’s member Kim Sung-kyu, who joined the military only about three months ago, also added, “We’re doing our bests not to disgrace those who dedicated for the country.”

Musical “Shinheung Military Academy” will be performed from September 9 to September 22 at the National Museum of Korea. Following its Seoul performances, it will be staged in other parts of the country by the end of the year.
