On Monday, Gaon restaurant located in the ritzy Cheongdam neighborhood in the Gangnam district of Seoul reported that it had the pleasure of serving Angelina Jolie and her son Maddox dinner the night before.

Jolie is in the country as part of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees envoy. While in Seoul, the actress has visited different universities, local adoption organizations, and eaten Korean cuisine. Beside a Korean meat restaurant in the Jongno district, she also dined a Gaon.

In the Michelin Guide for Seoul, it says that ” Gaon is a fine dining restaurant committed to promoting a better understanding of Korean food around the world and celebrates Korea’s time-honored aesthetic values.” This sentiment is clear when reading over the restaurant’s introduction where Goan states it strives to bring out the “best flavor from the best ingredients” at the center of Korean food.

According to its website, Gaon focuses on highlighting the flavor of the ingredients rather than dousing them in layers of spices or mixed in with a multitude of other foods. In particular, Gaon does this with traditional Korean ingredients sourced from within the country such as chestnuts, anchovies, abalone, and spices.

Their current seasonal menu includes hearty and flavorful autumn ingredients within reinterpreted traditional dishes. Such as a watercrest and marinated prawn Korean style beef tartar (육회; Yukhoe) and a dessert that utilizes tofu.

Meanwhile, the dinner set costs  220,000 to 290,000 KRW per person or 195.00 to 260.00 USD and is reservation only.
