On August 6, Son Yeon-Jae revealed that she will be debuting as a commentator, starting with the upcoming 2018 Jakarta Palembang Asian Games. Regarding the news, Son commented, “it was very hard when I first decided to leave the floor after 20 years.”

“Therefore, I had to gather much courage and determination once again to return to the industry even as a commentator. But because I received much love as a rhythmic gymnast, I wanted the next connection point between me and my fans to be about rhythmic gymnastics, as well,” said Son.

She concluded, “because I’m just a rookie commentator, I will lack skills in many parts. However, I want to use my power in the given position to wish the best of luck for the participants in the games as all citizens of Korea will, too.”

Meanwhile, the former gymnast has also recently signed a new contract with management company, HCP. HCP said, “we are glad to have Son Yeon-Jae joining our family. We promise to always respect and prioritize her wishes and opinions before planning for her future activities. Son Yeon-Jae is not a celebrity, but a sports-celebrity. Thus, we will always try our best to come up with unique activities that feature her strengths as both celebrity and athlete.”
