Chang Kiha reveals everything about his time as the vocalist of “Kiha & The Faces” and explains why the band decided to part ways after 10 years.

On November 5 broadcast of MBC’s “Radio Star,” Chang Kiha appeared as a guest along with Ji Sang-Ryeol, rapper Nucksal, and anchorman Kim Jung-Hyun.

During the episode, Chang Kiha addressed the disbandment of Kiha & the Faces and surprised everyone by revealing that he was the reason behind the break up.

Chang said, “while preparing for our 5th album, I realized how perfect this upcoming album was. I realized that we’ve done everything we wanted to and can with our music. There was nothing left for us to do. So I suggested that after our end-of-year concert, we should walk separate paths.”

He continued, “some members suggested that we take a break for indefinitely, but we should eventually get back together. However, I strongly disagreed. I felt like if we were to take down our “sign,” we would have to do it, completely. That would make us to feel more responsible for our choices. I suggested that until our feelings for one another reach the maximum, we should not get back together.”

At the end, he also talked about struggling to keep their identity as an indie band even during their time at the top of their popularity.

Chang said, “we were very successful in 2009 when we released our first album. At the time, we received many offers to appear in various commercials. I rejected all of them. We were just an indie band and I worried that if we appeared in those commercials, we would lose our identity and colors in the popular music industry.”

He continued, “I score 388 out of 400 maximum on the college entrance exam. As a result, I got accepted to the Seoul National University and entered as a student in the department of sociology. After attending the school for one semester, I quit. I just pursed after my dream of becoming a singer and here I am now.”
