Public opinion of actor Son Seung-won continues to plummet as CCTV footage of his car accident on Dec. 26 shows his attempt to leave the scene of the crash.
Newly revealed CCTV footage shows actor Son Seung-won’s car attempting to leave the scene of a car accident. His first tried to drive away in his car but is stopped when witnesses and a taxi block it. According to an earlier report, Son then attempted to leave the scene on foot. He was more than 100 meters away when the police detained him.
Notably, Son denied attempting to leave the site of the accident in an earlier police investigation. The footage along with information that he was driving without a valid license — which was revoked after a similar incident in September — has only assisted in diminishing positive public opinion of the actor.
Prosecutors on the case look to apply the Yoon Chang-ho Act. The Yoon Chang-ho act passed in November to deal out more severe punishment for drunk driving. It was named after a man who went brain dead after being hit with a car and later passed away. If it is used in Son’s case, he will be the first entertainer who is charged under the Act.
Among the growing critics, some are saying that by drunk driving habitually he is a potential murderer. He has three other drunk driving incidents on his record. Fellow musical actor Jung-hwi is also in the car and under investigation. Many are paying attention to see how the law will play out in this case.
