Yang Hyun-Suk, the CEO of YG Entertainment, had previously hinted at this news on his Instagram. On September 20, he uploaded a congratulatory post for BLACKPINK’s choreography video of “DDU-DU DDU-DU” reaching 100 million views. Alongside the post, Yang said, “I will deliver some good news very soon.”

While many guesses and rumors went around regarding the “good news,” it turns out that Jennie was preparing for a solo debut for a while now. She is the first BLACKPINK member to debut as a soloist since their group debut in 2016.

After making a successful debut with “Boombayah” and “Whistle,” the group continued to taste success, achieving their best results with the latest track “DDU-DU DDU-DU” in June.  Since their debut, Jennie has been acting as both the main rapper and vocalist of the group, known for her charismatic stage presence.

Moreover, the singer has also recently collaborated with a global pop star Dua Lipa on track “Kiss and Make Up,” which is scheduled for a release on October 19.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK is scheduled to hold their first domestic solo concerts in Seoul on November 10 through 11.
