TWICE’s Jihyo and Nayeon share some tips on overcoming struggles.

On July 24 broadcast of JTBC “Kim Jae Dong’s Talk to You – Are you Happy?” TWICE members Jihyo and Nayeon appeared as the guests. After listening to some audience’s worries, the two shared some tips they actually used to overcome struggles as trainees before debut.

In the audience, one student shared their worries about wanting to become a singer. They were constantly let down and discouraged by other people who they thought were better than them. In response, TWICE members shared how they coped with discouragement as trainees.

“I chose this path because I love performing on stage,” said Nayeon. She continued to tell the student to let go of things and have greed for themselves. “I used to compare myself to people who I thought were better than me, too. I used to think because this is all I’ve got, I can only do this much, and that thought put a limit on myself. As a result, I was only able to increase my ability to the limit that I had set myself.”

“It was tough, but I eventually learned how to let go of my worries. Afterwards, I became more relaxed and could focus more on my training, and was able to improve my singing and dancing skills.” In conclusion, Nayeon said if you focus on yourself only, then you will be able to forget about your worries.”

Jihyo also shared about her experience of going through some hardship as a trainee. The signer said, “I was a trainee for over 10 years. I started to wonder if this is really the right path for me, and when I would be able to debut. When I was about to give up, I met the TWICE team and finally debuted.”

She continued, “after I debuted, I thought I would be so happy. Then, I became the main vocalist. The position gave me a lot of pressure that I cried every day. Debuting didn’t always make me happy. I started to get conscious about how people viewed me because I was the main vocalist. Right around the time the pressure was breaking me, we held our first concert. I looked around the fans and saw how happy they were to see me sing. After the concert ended, I felt for the first time how happy I was.”

She continued, “it’s already amazing that you found happiness in singing. Think about the people who will support you and listen to you, and keep walking towards achieving your dreams.”
