According to an article published by the Corriere dello Sport – Stadio Lee Sung-woo decided to file a lawsuit for the remarks made by a commentator.

During a game against AC Milano the accused commentator said that rather than for his skills, Lee would “become more famous as a player who eats snacks made of dog meat,” voicing a decades-old stereotype about Korean. As a result, Lee said that he “felt disgraced” by the racist comments and decided to take a stand.

Moreover, while the Hellas Verona did lose the match 4-1, Lee has proven himself valuable on the field. During a previous match, he scored a superb right-footed volley in the 40th minute of the second half resulting in applause from the audience.

Meanwhile, national soccer team coach Shin Tae-young selected Lee to join the preliminary line up for the World Cup.
