Red Velvet’s Seulgi and Wendy reveal the process each took to become trainees at SM Entertainment and how they dealt with hardships.

On November 12 broadcast of JTBC’s “Let’s Eat Dinner Together,” Red Velvet’s 94-liner Seulgi and Wendy joined the hosts to grab a meal together.

During the show, the idol members, who are now one of the most successful and influential celebrities of all time, shared how each became a trainee at SM.

Both of them became trainees at SM by going through the open audition, except Seulgi did so on her own will and Wendy was a twist of fate.

Wendy begun, “I followed my friend into the audition. I usually get very nervous in front of an audience, but because I was with my friend, I was rather calm. The song I sang was Kim Gun-Mo’s “Moon of Seoul” and I sang it my way.”

Seulgi said, “I did the audition when I was in 6th grade and I begun my training the following year. Ever since I was young, I’ve always wanted to become a singer. I liked singing and dancing. I sang Lee Ji-Hoon’s “Doll” at my audition.

However, the journey for both of them wasn’t as easy as they had hoped. Seulgi said, “as my time as a trainee kept piling on, I continued to worry about my future. I worried, what if I don’t make it? This is the only thing I can do.”

She concluded, “even when I became a trainee, I couldn’t believe it. At first, they didn’t even write me a contract. A month into training, they offered me the official contract. At the beginning, I was afraid, but as I grew comfortable with the system, I started having fun.”
