South Korean YouTuber Lee Jung-Joo, the owner of YouTube channel “Secret Dawn” is in hot water for claiming to have received flowers from the Blue House.

On June 27, YouTuber Sae-Byuk (real name Lee Jung-Joo) posted a picture of herself with flowers that she claimed to have received from the Blue House. In the caption, she said, “the presidential office of secretaries sent me a present. They congratulated me on launching my official business, thank you!”

She continued the post with hashtags that said, “I should send them some facial treatment mask sheets. Do you think they will accept?” Furthermore, on the flowers she posted, the name wrote “the presidential office of the secretaries,” which seemed to validate the YouTuber’s claim.

However, the Blue House spokesperson Kim Eui-Kyeom soon clarified, “Cheong Wa Dae doesn’t send flowers in such a name.”

During a regular briefing on the morning of June 28, Kim Eui-Kyeom explained that “when Cheong Wa Dae sends flowers, we don’t use the name ‘the presidential office of the secretaries’ on them. We usually send flowers in the name of President Moon Jae-In, or the Chief Presidential Secretary Lim Jong-Seok.”

With this explanation, there is no way that the YouTuber received the flowers directly from Cheong Wa Dae, or the presidential office of the secretaries.

When the YouTuber realized the problem, she tried to explain by saying it wasn’t sent directly to her.

Sae-Byuk said, “the CEO of my business has a family member who is working at the Blue House. Because the launch of the business was a family event, they sent us flowers.” She continued, “it’s their tradition to congratulate family members with flowers. Strictly speaking, I didn’t receive the flowers, I just asked if I could take a picture with them.”

However, the netizens continued to criticize her for making it sound like she was personally congratulated by the Blue House for attention. When the controversy became bigger and bigger, the YouTuber deleted the picture and apologized.

She said, “I found out later that the person who works at the Blue House bought the flowers themselves, but put in Cheong Wa Dae’s name on them. They admitted their fault for not putting their names on the flowers. Furthermore, I admit that I should have re-checked the facts before posting it in public. I am truly sorry.”
