Lee Seung-hwan becomes Korea’s first winner of an international beauty pageant by winning the Mister International 2018 competition.

Mister International

A 23-year-old university student at Dankook University, Lee Seung-hwan became the 12th Mister International. Representing South Korea, Lee competed with 35 contestants from all over the country.

One of the two largest international male beauty pageants, Mister International is an annual contest founded in 2006. Since the first edition, 80 countries have sent their representative to this pageant, with an annual average of 38 contestants.

This year’s event was held on April 30 at National Theatre of Yangon in Yangon, Myanmar. As the winner of the year, Lee Seung-hwan received the sash from the last year’s first runner-up Masaya Yamagishi of Japan. Top 5 finalists include Manuel Molano of Colombia, Dwayne Geldenhuis of South Africa, Tran Minh Trung of Vietnam, and Alessio Costantini of Switzerland.

Having received many supports from fans, including local fans in Myanmar, Lee appreciates those who supported him for the honor.

“I never imagined I would win,” said Lee in the interview. “I think I could win the first place thanks to the people who supported and promoted me even though I’m not that well known.”

By winning at Mister International, Lee Seung-hwan became the first person to be crowned at an international beauty pageant, including men and women. Previously, Jang Yoon-jeong was honored as the first runner-up at 1988 Miss Universe.
