YG has revealed that Big Bang members G-Dragon and Taeyang are awaiting their enlistment notice from the army.
On February 6, a YG Entertainment official revealed that “G-Dragon and Taeyang are waiting for their notice to enter the military.”
The news that the two Big Bang members were planning to enlist first came to light last year. Further, their decision was reportedly motivated by not having the ability to delay military conscription.
Since military service is mandatory for all able-bodied males from the age 18-35, it is common for men to postpone enlistment due to educational and professional reasons. As a result, the maximum postponement of 730 days can be extended.
Moreover, an exclusive report by Dispatch investigated how G-Dragon has made use of this policy. In 2008 the artist first entered Kyung-hee University as an undergraduate in post-modern music.
After dropping out of the program that same year, he later enrolled in Leisure Sports Studies at Gukje Digital University. When he graduated in 2013, he immediately applied for a master degree at Sejong University in content and retail distribution.
Three years later at the age of 28, he graduated with his master’s degree. While G-Dragon has applied for a doctoral program, even if he is accepted YG Entertainment has already announced that the artist plans to enlist this year.
Moreover, it should be noted that all of these actions are fully legal and not particular to G-Dragon nor his status as a celebrity.
Meanwhile, on February 3 Taeyang wed his long-time girlfriend actress Min Hyo-rin.
