Do Kyung-Soo says he feels absolutely no pressure about his inevitable fate to enlist in the military as a Korean male citizen.

On December 10, Do Kyung-Soo participated in an interview to talk about his new film “Swing Kids,” for which he starred with actress Park Hye-Soo and worked with director Kang Hyung-Chul.

The actor first began, “while filming, I was wondering how this film would turn out. I saw it for the first time during our press conference and I enjoyed it very much. At the end, I found myself tearing up.”

Film “Swing Kids” takes place in 1951 during the Korean War. It tells a story of about a group of 5 amateur dancers, who come together on their shared passion for dancing despite their brutal living situation at the POW camp in Geoje Island. Do Kyung-Soo starred as Roh Ki-Su, a rebellious North Korean soldier who becomes the leader of the crew.

Do Kyung-Soo brought up his character and said, “I’m alike my character, Roh Ki-Su. Just like him, I’m bright and playful. However, I was also filled with much pressure because I was given a lot of tasks as the main character of the film. For example, I had to learn how to speak in a North Korean accent.”

He continued, “I never really got an opportunity to hear such an accent in my daily life, so I worried a lot at the beginning. It was definitely uncomfortable at first, but I received lots of help from a professional. Thankfully, I was able to pull off the accent.”

At last, Do also mentioned the inevitable military enlistment. The singer said, “I think it’s my duty as a Korean male citizen to enlist in the military. Naturally, it didn’t bother me to act in the role of a soldier. I didn’t consider my character’s profession as an important factor. Instead, I tried to focus on his characteristics and how I can portray them the best.”

At the end, the actor commented on what has changed since the beginning of his acting career. Do said, “as I’ve become more comfortable with acting, I’ve learned how to calm myself on set. When I was filming “It’s Okay, That’s Love” with Jo In-Sung or working with Yum Jung-Ah in film “Cart,” I was so nervous that I often forgot my lines.”

He concluded, “I’ve never encountered a schedule conflict while working as an actor and as an EXO member. While promoting as an EXO member, I would focus on that. While we are on our break, I would focus on my acting career. However, I love both singing and acting equally. As long as fate allows me, I want to do both until the end of my life.”
