HBO is developing a new comedy series, which is going to be about Koreatown in Los Angeles.
According to Variety on October 4, HBO is to develop a comedy series “KTown,” teaming with Korean-American producer Jason Kim and actress Greta Lee.
The new black comedy series will follow Kang’s family and the most eccentric neighborhood in Los Angeles. Greta Lee will star as “Yumi,” the self-proclaimed “Brentwood Barbie” who is ashamed of her cultural root. As the story develops, however, Yumi grows to find herself as a powerful Korean-American woman.
Jason Kim, who is in charge of the show’s production, is currently producing HBO’s comedy series, “Barry.” Previously, he served as a consulting producer of Netflix’s “Love” and as a story editor of HBO’s “Girls.” He also opened a musical, “K-Pop: The Musical” last year in New York.
