Film Burning (dir. Lee Chang-dong) has been nominated at the 71st Cannes Film Festival.

The officials at the film festival made the nomination announcement on April 12th (KST).

Burning is a mystery film about three young characters Jongsoo, Ben, and Haemi. The main cast includes Steven Yeun, Yoo Ah-in, and a new actress Jeon Jong-suh. In this new film, Steven Yeon performs a mystery man named Ben. Yoo Ah-in performs Jongsoo, who is a naive but sensitive man that tries to solve a problem about a woman he loves. Lastly, Jeon Jong-suh performs Haemi, who is Jongsoo’s old friend and his love.

Director Lee Chang-dong was previously invited to the Cannes back in 2000 with his film ‘Peppermint Candy’ for the first time. After that, his movies Milyang (2000) and Poetry (2010) were nominated at the festival. In 2009, he also attended the festival as a jury.

 

Burning is director Lee’s first film in 8 years since his film Poetry (2010).
