Big Hit Entertainment founder Bang Si-hyuk was awarded the Presidential Citation for producing K-pop group BTS.

The “2017 Korea Content Awards” was held at Seoul Coex on Dec. 5. The event celebrated creators who delivered joy through their content and have made significant achievements in representing Korea.

Big Hit Entertainment founder and CEO Bang Si-hyuk received the Presidential Citation for the Overseas Advancement Merit category.

Bang Si-hyuk is responsible for producing Billboard chart-setting K-pop group BTS. The seven-member group hit top seven on the Billboard 200 and won Top Social Artist at the Billboard awards. Bang was recognized for his achievements in spreading the hallyu (korean culture) wave.

“Today, BTS ranked twenty-seventh on the Billboard Hot 100. They are the second Korean artists since PSY and the first K-pop group to achieve such results. I don’t think their success comes from just one team, nor do I think it should stop there. We should continue to have a second BTS and third BTS,” he said.

“I will fine-tune the know-hows and complete my success model so that I can share it with hoobaes (juniors). I’d like to thank my sunbaenim (seniors), people in the industry, and my colleagues. I share this honor with the Big Hit staff and the BTS members.”

“This award is not mine alone.”

Producer Lee Dong-hui won an award in the Broadcast category for JTBC show “Ssul Jeon”.

JTBC’s “Ssul Jeon” mixes current events and entertainment to broadcast content of a different genre. It covers politics and societal issues and continues to raise audience interest.

“This award is not  mine alone. I am here to represent those who have devoted their time and energy to the program,” he said.

“Ssul Jeon” will reach its five-year anniversary next February. We were able to persevere because we had JTBC. I think the show did well because of audience support and criticism. This award is for the production team, guests and staff members.”

In addition, Sanhwa Networks CEO Ahn Jae-hyuk won a Presidential Citation for SBS drama “Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim”.

SBS drama “Romantic Doctor, Teacher Kim” crosses the norm for medical dramas. It brings up realistic problems and the irrational parts of society to bring forth a message about the true value of life.
