Amnesty International Korea

Celebrating International Women’s Day, London-based non-governmental human rights organization Amnesty International’s Korean branch published a series of eight postings celebrating women’s achievements. In one of the postings, author Choi Ji-eun acknowledges comedian Song Eun-yi’s recent achievements in the entertainment industry.

Pop culture journalist Choi Ji-eun chooses Song Eun-yi as the female figure she wants to discuss in the celebration of 2018 International Women’s Day. In the entertainment industry where women’s places to stand was diminished for a significant time, Song Eun-yi worked her way to make more space for female entertainers.

Her accomplishment is especially meaningful, as she has started from the bottom. Using podcasts as the platform, Song Eun-yi became the pioneer of the new type of entertainment, making it strong enough to threaten the major industry.

“Song Eun-yi, as an outstanding producer, has brought the limelight back on numerous female entertainers,” writes the author. “Proving that there are so many women out there who can make people laugh in various ways reveals the one-sidedness of and idleness of the system which excluded them.”

Comedian Song Eun-yi is actively participating in various means of entertainment as a producer as well as an entertainer. She has produced popular TV shows and radio shows like “Receipts.” Her latest projects include “Celeb Five,” project girl group comprising comedians Kim Shin-young, Ahn Young-mi, Shin Bong-sun, Song Eun-yi, and Kim Young-hee.
