The Thai movie Brother of the Year starring 2PM Nickhun made a big splash by taking first place at the box office.
Impressively, after Brother of the Year premiered on May 10, it topped Thailand’s box off for a full three days. Considering that it dethroned the Hollywood blockbuster Avengers: Infinity Wars is impressive.
Four days after the films release the box office calculated the cumulative ticket revenue and discovered that the movie gained 66.6 million baht (2,070,252 USD). Notably, this is the biggest opening record for a Thai movie release this year and is understandably drawing attention. Moreover, the film also ranked third in terms of first-week performance in 2018 behind Marvel and Disney’s Black Panther and Avengers: Infinity Wars.
Brother of the Year is a romantic comedy about Jane (Urassaya Sperbund), her bullying and lazy brother Chut (Sunny Suwanmethanont) who has a penchant of ruining her romantic relationships, and her current half-Japanese boyfriend Mochi (Nickhun). Moviegoers have given praise for the casting of the 2PM member in the film saying that he is the best choice for the role and portrays the sweet and gentle Mochi sincerely.
Additionally, having already earned the titles “Thai Prince,” “Nation’s Boyfriend,” and most recently “Nation’s husband,” Nickhun continues to demonstrate his hot and growing popularity. Moreover, one source who works in Thai entertainment revealed that many in the film industry are keeping an eye on the public’s reception as they prepare to open the film in 12 additional Asian countries.
Meanwhile, Nickhun has cemented his stardom in Thailand and throughout Asia. Last year, he appeared in the JTBC web drama “Magic School,” showing off his stable Korean acting. Further, the 2PM member also held a series of solo fan meetings with stops including Seoul, Tokyo, and Osaka from November to March this year.
